Shortening Delivery Times by Up to 14 Days: Maersk Restores MECL Service Through the Suez Canal

Maersk has officially announced the return of its MECL service to the Suez Canal and Red Sea corridor. This move will significantly shorten transit times between India, the Middle East, and the East Coast of the United States.

Maersk has officially announced that its MECL service will resume its trans-Suez route through the Red Sea. This move follows the successful transit of the mega-ship Majestic Maersk, along with structural changes previously implemented for the AE15 service.

Optimize Shipping Time

The Danish shipping company said this move marks another effort in the process of gradually returning to operation of the Suez Canal corridor, thereby restoring a faster and more efficient shipping route connecting India, the Middle East, and the East Coast of the United States.

The adjusted shipping routes are expected to significantly improve transit times for shippers. Specifically:

● Westbound: Shortens the average travel time by 7 days.

● Eastbound: Shortens the average travel time by up to 14 days.

Updated Schedule and New Cycle

According to Maersk's deployment plan, the first ships marking the return to the Red Sea include:

● First westbound voyage: Maersk Denver (trip number: 627W).

● First Eastbound voyage: Maersk Chicago (cruise number: 624E).

As part of its restructuring process, starting in August, Maersk will add an eastern port call point in Jeddah. Accordingly, the updated eastern port call schedule will sequentially include the following ports: Charleston – Savannah – Houston – Norfolk – Newark – Tangiers – Jeddah – Salalah – Mundra – Pipavav – Nhava Sheva.

Maintain Contingency Plans

Although it has begun resuming the most efficient route, Maersk affirms that it will continue to closely monitor the security situation in the Middle East. The airline also emphasizes that contingency plans are always in place, in case conditions necessitate rerouting services around the Cape of Good Hope once again.
