
According to an announcement by CMA CGM, the airline will apply a peak season surcharge of US$900/TEU to cargo shipped from major Asian ports to the Mediterranean and North Africa starting June 15, 2026.
This fee is set at US$900 per 20-foot container and US$1,800 per 40-foot container, and applies to all goods until further notice.
The French container shipping company also established new aggregate freight rates on the same route, effective June 15th.
Shipping rates to the Western Mediterranean are US$4,800 per 20-foot container and US$6,500 per 40-foot container.
The shipping cost to the Adriatic is US$4,900 per 20-foot container and US$6,600 per 40-foot container.
Shipping rates to the Eastern Mediterranean, Black Sea, Syria, Egypt, and Türkiye are US$5,300 per 20-foot container and US$6,700 per 40-foot container.
Shipping costs to North Africa are higher, with Algeria at $6,500 per 20-foot container and $9,200 per 40-foot container.
Tunisia, Libya, and Morocco are listed at $5,900 per 20-foot container and $7,400 per 40-foot container, respectively.
CMA CGM states that FAK freight rates include the base freight, fuel surcharge, ETS, and LLS. Port handling fees, safety and security fees, contingency fees, and local fees may also apply. The company's announcement identifies this charge as the Peak Season Surcharge.
